Signatários do Pacto

A luta contra as alterações climáticas será ganha ou perdida nas áreas urbanas. A vasta maioria da população europeia vive e trabalha nas cidades, consumindo um valor estimado de 80% da energia utilizada na UE. As administrações locais, sendo as entidades mais próximas das populações, são as mais indicadas para abordar as matérias climáticas de forma global. Assim, cada vez mais cidades decidiram aceitar o desafio, como demonstra o crescente número de Signatários do Pacto de Autarcas.

Os Signatários representam cidades que variam em dimensão, desde pequenas vilas a grandes áreas metropolitanas como Londres ou Paris. No prazo de um ano a contar da data da sua assinatura, os Signatários do Pacto comprometem-se a implementar Planos de Acção para as Energias Sustentáveis nos seus territórios, com o objectivo de reduzir as emissões de CO₂ em 20% até 2020.
